Yellowknife (Jan 30/06) - Gail Cyr took the stage at the Gold Range during Sam's Day to sing her underground hit song, I'm a Native Woman.
Cyr adapted the song from the Peggy Lee tune, I'm a Woman, composing her own lyrics.
As usual, the audience went wild. The song goes something like this...
Gail Cyr is a native woman, and that's the truth.

I can scrape down that moose hide that's hanging outside on the rack.
I can do 10 loads of laundry before you finish that old six pack.
I can scoop up a great big dipper full of lard from the drippings can.
Go out to feed the dog team and be back before it melts in the pan.
I'm a native woman,
W - O - M - A - N.
I'll say it again.
I'm a native woman.
I can scrub this old housing unit 'til it's shinin' like a dime.
Feed the baby, make the bannock, and bandage a knee all at the same time.
Play 48-card bingo, grab up the boys and jig till it's two a.m.
And then lay down at three, jump up at six and start all over again!
I'm a native woman,
W - O, - M - A - N.
I'll say it again.
I'm a native woman.
I can knock out the man that beats any woman down.
Drive him crazy till he cries like a baby, or till he moves outta town.
Hold out on any mercy - until he changes his ways.
And if he don't - he's sure to regret another wakin' day!
If you come to me sickly you know I'm gonna make you well.
If you came to me all hexed up, you know I'm gonna break the spell.
If you come to me hungry, you know I'll share my KFC.
If it's loving you're needing, you know honey, I'll set you free!
I'm a native woman,
W - O - M - A - N.
I'll say it again.
I'm a native woman.
Now you might be thinkin' I'm stretchin' the truth just a little bit.
So I'll just have one more thing to say -- to make this song a hit.
I got a winning Nevada ticket that says there ain't nothing I can't do.
I can make a dress from a caribou and I can make a man outta you!
I'm a native woman.
W - O, - M - A - N.
I'll say it again. I'm a native woman, and that's all. I'm a native woman, and that's all!
