Yellowknife (Dec 21/05) - Higher prices for fuel oil, gasoline and other fuel pushed prices higher in Yellowknife than the rest of Canada last month.
In November, fuel oil was up 36.6 per cent while gasoline prices jumped 13.3 per cent from the same month in 2004.
As a result, the overall inflation rate for the city was three per cent. The national average inflation rate was two per cent. In Edmonton, prices rose an average of 2.7 per cent while Whitehorse had a 2.4 per cent inflation rate.
Food costs have also risen in Yellowknife during the past year, up 4.7 per cent.
Cost of alcoholic beverages and tobacco also increased, up 3.6 per cent and 1.9 per cent respectively.
