Fort Simpson (Dec 16/05) - Mike Drake garnered 36 votes to defeat incumbent Dianne Gonet in the Fort Liard mayoral election on Monday. Gonet was chosen on 22 ballots. Al Harris, who tried to withdraw but was too late, received 20 votes.

Results from the Fort Liard District Education Authority poll are as follows:

Martha Drake, 69 votes; Eva Hope, 67; Irene McLeod, 67; Pauline Simba, 61; Bernice Hardisty, 56; and, JoAnne Deneron, 49. Kathy Hardisty, with 47 votes, was not elected.

The Fort Providence hamlet council's new additions based on Monday's election are:

Jonas Landry, 94 votes; Allen Bouvier, 70; Alphonsine Constant, 69; and, Paschalina Thurber, 67; Falling short on votes were: Rudolph Landry, 58 votes; Rosemary Minoza, 56; Lester Antoine, 27; and, Patricia Constant, 10.

There were 121 of 483 eligible voters who turned out at the polls.
