Yellowknife (Dec 14/05) - A man RCMP described as "combative" ended up in an ambulance instead of a police cruiser after an altercation with an officer on 50th Street, this past Wednesday.

Yellowknife RCMP Cpl. Andy Ing said an officer was called to The Diner restaurant after a report of an intoxicated male causing a disturbance and bothering customers.

"He was placed under arrest for causing a disturbance," Ing said.

After the arrest, there was an altercation. The man ended up injured and on the ground outside the restaurant, Ing said.

A crowd of patrons gathered as police and ambulance attendants tried to subdue the man and place him on a backboard.

The man was treated at Stanton Territorial Hospital for undetermined injuries. He was charged with assaulting a peace officer.
