The Whale Cove native now living in Iqaluit was designated the candidate on Dec. 5.

"I chose to run because it's time for somebody to speak out about Nunavut and work closely with the Inuit organizations and the GN to make a change," said Ford-Rogers, 35.

Ford-Rogers wants to tackle Nunavut's lack of sufficient housing, lack or sufficient funding to combat violence and the high cost of living.

She is optimistic she can make a difference, especially being the new kid on the block.

"I have energy and a lot of support from individuals here and out in the communities. I don't know how many people I already stole from the Liberals, even die-hard Liberals have already called me giving me their support," she said.

Ford-Rogers works as the constituency assistant for Iqaluit Centre MLA Hunter Tootoo.
