Iqaluit (Dec 12/05) - A mugging, arson and threats of bodily harm were highlights of the police blotter last week in Iqaluit.

A male youth pulled a folding knife on a teacher at Inuksuk high school on Dec. 6, say RCMP.

RCMP officers were called in and at around 2 p.m. the youth was taken into custody.

Charges had not been laid by press time.

A quick response by staff may have saved the Northmart convenience store on Dec. 3. Two fires were deliberately set, one in the staff washroom and one in the storeroom area.

Both fires were quickly extinguished by staff and there was minimal damage.

A 14-year-old male was arrested and arson charges will be dealt with through restorative justice instead of the criminal court.

Police are looking for anyone who witnessed an attempted mugging in the White Row area. Early in the morning on Dec. 8, a woman walking through the row houses was grabbed by a man. He demanded money, and when the victim refused, he fled on foot.
