Yellowknife (Nov 07/05) - For Anna Vakil, travelling the North in her friend's honour was a great way to spread the word about breast cancer.
In May of 2002, 50-year-old Laura Mocquais was diagnosed with breast cancer.
She was given three months to live by doctors, but held on and survived for three more years.
Shortly before passing away last May, Mocquais was contacted by her long-time friend, Vakil.
Vakil expressed her interest in travelling to see Mocquais in her home in Calgary, and spend valuable time with her.
After Mocquais' passing, Vakil started to make arrangements to travel.
Vakil was in the Territories from Sept. 29 to Oct. 17, and visited many communities, sharing the story of her friend.
"Laura was a great person, and would have had a good time seeing the Territories," said Vakil.
