Police on a cocaine roll

Yellowknife (Oct 07/05) - It's been a good month for police in the battle against cocaine on the streets of Yellowknife.

Yellowknife RCMP made two separate arrests recently, snagging a large amount of cocaine and crack cocaine.

In one bust, they found a person in Centre Square Mall with 10 ounces of pure cocaine and $441 in cash.

Sandra Gellenbeck has been charged with possession with the intent to sell cocaine.

A week later, a man was stopped in a routine vehicle stop, when it was discovered there was a warrant for his arrest on another matter.

After a search, police found 20 grams of crack cocaine and a crack pipe. The street value for the seizure is about $2,000.

Charges have yet to be laid in the second case.

Cocaine, both in the pure form and in the cheaper crack "rocks", has been a major problem in Yellowknife for the last five years.

Crack busts are routine for RCMP and the courts are filled with cases involving the highly-addictive drug.

Gellenbeck has been released until her next territorial court appearance, Nov. 29.
