Tuktoyaktuk (Oct 17/05) - George Tuccaro shared some good messages with the people to start off Family Violence Awareness week in Tuktoyaktuk.
The Tuesday night event was a kick-off for a week of events intended to bring families together.
The day started off when Tuccaro visited the Mangilaluk school, and spoke to the children about healthy relationships.
After the presentations at the school, Tuccaro joined the community in walking the streets for their Take Back the Night march.
The march went very well, and was well attended, according to deputy-mayor Merven Gruben.
"It was a good idea to hold off on our march, we had a great turnout," said Gruben.
Community resource booths set up in Kitti Hall were sponsored by the community's women's shelter.
The displays focused on healthy living and caring families. Tuccaro also took the stage again, and entertained the community about healthy relationships.
"The show was great, he really got through to the crowd," said Gruben.
The show could not have happened without donations from the community, said co-ordinator Jenny Jacobson.
