Yellowknife (Sep 21/05) - A Yellowknife parole officer and two city fire fighters will be honored Sunday at the NWT Emergency Services memorial ceremony.

"This is the first of its kind in the territories," said Sgt. Stu Hunter of the Yellowknife RCMP.

More than 100 emergency service workers will march across the causeway from the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre to the ceremonial circle for the half-hour ceremony that starts at 11 a.m.

The last Sunday of September has been set aside by the federal government as a national day of memorial for police officers and peace officers.

A ceremony is held in Ottawa and the names of those who died in the line of duty are added to the Wall of Honour on Parliament Hill.

This year, the name of Louise Pargeter, a Yellowknife parole officer, will be added.

During the ceremony in Yellowknife, the names of Pargeter and Yellowknife firefighters Cyril Fyfe and Kevin Olson who died in March will be read out.

"Our service will be specific to the duty deaths in the territories," Hunter said.
