Yellowknife (Sep 16/05) - A man accused of assaulting a woman will stay in custody until his next court appearance.

Mark Allen Inuktalik, 28, reserved his right to a show cause hearing and was remanded to the North Slave Correctional Centre in Yellowknife until Sept. 27.

Inuktalik is charged with unlawful confinement, sexual assault, assault causing bodily harm and uttering threats.

The victim was treated at Stanton Territorial Hospital after the assault. Her family said she is at home and doing OK. Inuktalik was arrested Sept.8 five days after he eluded police. Police didn't consider the 5'4", 141-pound man a threat to the public, but wanted to get him into custody quickly, calling the assault "serious".

Crown attorney Mike Himmelman asked justice of the peace Kevin Dennis to restrict Inuktalik from contacting the victim, but withdrew that request after defense lawyer Margo Nightingale called the move premature.
