Work on expanding the Nunasi Building on 48th Street started last July. Construction is expected to be complete by June.
Nuna Logistics will occupy the upper floors. It provides project logistics, construction, contract mining and site services to northern Canada's mining industry.
SecureCheck, another Nunasi company, provides security to the Legislative Assembly as well as to the diamond mines, will work out of the expanded building.
Also in the building are Top of the World Travel Agency, Polar Visions Centres and Arctic Spirit Promotions - all Nunasi-owned companies. Nunasi Corporation is wholly-owned by the Inuit of Nunavut.
Atco Frontec Services Ltd. is moving into the building this summer. The company is in partnership with Nunasi on a number of business ventures, including Uqsuq Corporation, a fuel company based out of Iqaluit.
The addition adds three storeys and 20,000 sq. ft.to the existing building.
Clark Builders is the general contractor on the addition, designed by Edmonton architect David Wong.
Windows have been added to the second floor to bring in more light and an atrium on the south side of the will add light to the main lobby.
Cathy Munro, corporate controller and project manager with Nunasi, said upscale windows have been installed on the building to reduce heat loss in the winter as well as heat gain in the summer.
Balconies, lower flow toilets and an elevator have also been added.
Other Yellowknife-based Nunasi companies which are not being housed in the building include Ardicom Digital Communications, Academy of Learning, the Genesis Group and Nunasi Helicopters.
