Yellowknife (Feb 02/05) - A Yellowknife woman who was held in a Forrest Drive-area home and beaten repeatedly over the course of 14 hours is expected to recover from her injuries, police said Monday.

"Her injuries were not life-threatening," said RCMP Const. Kerri Riehl.

The harrowing ordeal ended when the 39-year-old woman was allowed to leave the home at around 7 p.m. Sunday night.

The woman went to Stanton Territorial Hospital where officials reported the incident to police, Riehl said.

The woman was allowed to move around in the home and not locked in one room or tied down, said Riehl.

Police could not discuss any other details surrounding the assault and forcible confinement because the case is still under investigation, Riehl said.

The woman's 34-year-old boyfriend was arrested in connection with the incident and is currently in police custody.

No charges yet

Formal charges have not been laid against the man, but he is expected to appear in court later this week.

His name will not be released until he is formally charged, Riehl said.
