Iglulik has never had such a service before, but after a successful first night earlier this month, the hope is to eventually branch out into more take-out food choices, said hotel owner Elijah Evaluarjuk.
"We're really excited about this," he said. "It's been busy."
All night, he was darting in and out of the freezing cold carrying his fluorescent orange insulated bag stuffed with at least two large pizzas.
Right now the kitchen makes two kinds, pepperoni and cheese at $22, and the Tujurmivik Special with pepperoni, mushrooms, green peppers and Italian sausages at $25. If you order two pies, the second is only $10.
Driving around the community he has lived his whole life, Evaluarjuk was momentarily thrown off and had to ask pedestrians where a certain house number was.
Luckily in Iglulik everybody knows everybody else and he quickly located the door.
"This town has grown so much," he said.
It doesn't help when house numbers are obscured by snow, but the first night of deliveries was bound to have a few wrinkles.
"It's our first night, we have to see how it goes," he said.
Nathalie Paulin, the hotel accountant and pizza maker, was enthusiastic about the new service that took them many weeks of planning.
"We wanted to plan it properly," she said. "It's been hectic."
By the end of the first night - the service runs Tuesday to Saturday, 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. - the hotel kitchen had sold 34 pizzas.
"This way you can get a homemade pizza and you don't have to go out."
