Manumikalak Pudlat was found dead of a stab wound in a residence on Feb. 21.
Const. Joe Baines of the Cape Dorset RCMP said police are investigating the incident and are working to notify more members of the man's family.
"We have someone here from the major crimes unit in Ottawa doing forensic work," said Baines, Friday.
Thirty-five-year old Pitseolak Qiatsuq of Cape Dorset has been charged with second degree murder in connection with the incident.
Police said this was not a spousal related incident, but the victim and the accused knew each other.
Murder is not something any small community, especially one that is about to host CBC The National's Road Stories segment, wants to deal with, Baines said.
"Everybody is taking it hard," said Baines. "Being a small town, everybody knows everybody."
Baines said people have been coming forward with information, but the police still need more help from the public to solve this crime.
"It's a case of murder," said Baines. "We have to interview as many people as possible to try to piece everything together."
Qiatsuq is scheduled to appear in court in Iqaluit on Feb. 28.
