Last week, the Edmonton Food Bank donated 30 pallets of food supplies to their colleagues here.
"We were just trying to help out," said Edmonton Food Bank executive director Marjorie Bencz.
"They contacted us and said they were short on supplies and we were pleased to be able to help out." And according to the Inuvik Food Bank's Joe Devereaux, the donations didn't end there.
Several freight companies, including First Air, Canadian North, Qilamik Industries and Matco, have offered to ship the food to Inuvik at no cost.
"We are just really appreciative all around," said Devereaux.
"The food bank was very fortunate to receive such a large donation."
The Inuvik Food Bank has been in operation since October 2003.
Currently, there are 140 families registered to receive supplementary groceries and the organization provides food to more than 400 people based on need.
On Feb. 5 the Inuvik Food Bank will host a benefit dinner and concert.
A turkey dinner will be followed by a dessert auction, door prizes and live entertainment.
Those attending the dinner are asked to bring a small food item as a donation.
