Iqaluit (Nov 01/04) - An internationally known playwright visited Iqaluit last weekend to give a few tips on creating drama.

Judith Rudakoff is a theatre professor at York University in Toronto, but she has also worked with theatre groups in South Africa and Cuba.

Her workshop in Iqaluit had four participants.

"She introduced them to her methodology," said Jonathan Dewar, executive director of Qaggiq Theatre.

"It's based on research she's done over the years. Through her work with different cultures she has found certain elements of performance are universal."

Rudakoff's methodology involves examining four elements -- fire, air, earth and water -- and their metaphorical presence, absence and balance in a performance.

Though the workshop was a small one, Dewar said the participants were enthusiastic and eager to learn. Rudakoff also read from her works for audiences at the Unikkaarvik Visitor's Centre and the Fantasy Palace over the weekend.
