In Yellowknife, try to attend the following ceremonies and observances.
Veterans will be visiting schools around the city this week, including Range Lake North, Kalemi Dene, Weledeh Catholic, Ecole Allain St-Cyr and Ecole St. Joseph.
Wednesday at 8 p.m. and Thursday at 3 p.m., the Yellowknife Choral Society presents Songs of Remembrance at St. Patrick Church. There will be songs and readings in honour on Remembrance Day, with director Shad Turner and Amy Hendricks on piano. Tickets are $15 and available from Society members or the Birchwood Gallery. Bishop Sperry, a much-decorated WWII veteran and well-known Northerner, will be speaking at the ceremony.
The annual Remembrance Day parade starts at the Royal Canadian Legion Thursday morning. Marchers will gather at the Legion at 9:30 a.m. and begin their parade to the Cenotaph at 10:05.
Wreaths will be laid at the Cenotaph by City Hall and then the procession will move to St. Patrick's school for a Ceremony of Remembrance at 11 a.m. At 12:30 p.m., an indoor service at the Legion begins. A potluck follows at 2 p.m., entertainment begins at 3 p.m. and runs until closing.
