Rankin's Canada Day celebrations included an annual parade, numerous games, prizes and souvenirs, face painting, a bicycle contest and lots of good eats and cold drinks.

Even Mother Nature seemed to be in the mood for the occasion, as most of the afternoon in Rankin featured sunny skies and 9C temperatures.

RCMP Const. Sean O'Brien gave up part of his day off to volunteer to take part in the annual parade, before enjoying some of the festivities with his family.

"It's good to see so many people in the community out together and having such a good time," said O'Brien.

"It's also nice to see so much pride in our country being exhibited like this."

Noah Tiktak agrees with O'Brien when it comes to seeing residents out displaying their pride in being Canadian.

He said while there's always flags flying and faces painted every year, you could easily notice a lot more faces adorned with the Maple Leaf at this year's gathering.

"The activities the hamlet holds on Canada Day are really good for our community spirit," said Tiktak.

"It's heartwarming to see Inuit expressing their pride in being Canadians.

"Inuit have been here for thousands of years, but it's great to be part of a national celebration like this."

Proud to remember

Tiktak brought his camcorder along to tape the day's activities.

He says it's important to preserve such gatherings so you can look back upon them in future years and remember the pride you witnessed as the community came together to celebrate a common bond.

"To be able to come out and see so many Canadian flags flying, and to see young and old celebrating this great day together, is a wonderful thing."
