Inuvik (May 21/04) - There's something smelly at the community greenhouse and it's not manure roasting in the building's warmth -- rather the lack thereof. At least of four bags worth.

On Friday, greenhouse co-ordinator Carrie Young discovered that three of her 10kg manure bags were missing, along with one bag from another member's plot.

"It's a really shitty thing to do," said Young of the 40kg steer poo heist. "I'm surprised that somebody would stoop so low as to steal crap."

One 10kg-bag of manure is worth about $10.

Young reported the incident to the RCMP and she sent out a "gentle" e-mail to the membership about the incident.

"But so far I've gotten no leads."

As for the safeguarding against further manure thefts, Young has put the remainder of the greenhouse supply under lock and key.

When asked if she thought the manure would be returned, Young did not sound hopeful.

"Should I describe what it looks like in case anyone finds it?"
