"We have six or seven tricycles in the shed," said executive director Linda Benedict. The day care has several tricycles, but "there's no place to ride them because it's all sand."
The track would run along the fence from the back gate to the front gate, with a large circle to give riders room to turn around and provide a space for the daycare's basketball net.
"They can't bounce any balls because the yard is sand," Benedict said.
But building the track is turning out to be more trouble and cost than Benedict imagined.
The swings and sandbox must be moved and the work must be done by qualified workers.
"I thought we were going to be using our parents to do this stuff," she said.
The daycare has raised about $7,000 and plans a raffle and other events to cover the balance of the $22,000 project.
"I am determined to get that track this year," Benedict said.
