Probation for theft

Yellowknife (Feb 11/04) - A 19-year-old Yellowknife woman who stole money from her employer was given a suspended sentence in territorial court this week.

It was discovered she stole money as a cashier when she rang in a refund last November and then slipped $119 into an envelope.

Because the woman was on probation at the time, she was sentenced to one-day in jail.

She will be on probation for 12 months and has been ordered to keep the peace at all times.

She also must perform 45 hours of community service within five months.

Judge Tom Smith also ordered she undergo a psychological assessment if directed to by her probation officer.
