Trials have been postponed because Influenza A is making people sick in the Kitikmeot region.
Territorial trials for volleyball in Kugluktuk, soccer in Iqaluit, basketball in Rankin Inlet and Arctic sports in Chesterfield Inlet scheduled for Dec. 5-7 will now be held in early January.
"This temporary measure is designed to slow the spread of Influenza in Nunavut," said Nunavut's chief medical officer, Dr. James Talbot, in a news release last week.
"Nunavut has been experiencing a moderately severe Influenza A season," said Talbot.
"When communities are affected, stress levels are increased on the community health centres and community essential services."
Talbot said the best defence is a flu shot, available free of charge at every health centre in Nunavut.
The flu can also be prevented by regular hand washing, health officials say.
When you cough, cover your mouth, and it is also important to avoid public places if you feel sick.
