Nearing their goal

Yellowknife (Dec 12/03) - The Stanton Hospital Foundation is inching closer to achieving their $200,000 goal to buy five new diagnostic scopes.

"We have raised $90,000 for Operation Looking Glass," said Paul Laserich, chair of the Stanton Hospital Foundation.

The annual fundraising campaign started in February, and on Dec. 4, they recognized four organizations that contributed to the fund. Kentucky Fried Chicken, Out North, Laurelton Diamonds and the Too Much Fun Club were all recognized.

The organizations were added to the donor recognition wall on the main floor of the hospital.

"We couldn't believe that $6,300 was raised," said Mickey Brown, coordinator of the Too Much Fun Club, the group responsible for putting together the 25-year Yellowknife reunion.

"But there was no question about where the money would go."

The scopes required at the hospital include a digital colposcope for Pap smears and optical diagnoses, a colonoscope for colon exams, a gastroscope for digestion problems, a nasopharyngoscope for ears, nose and throat cases, and a gystoscope for bladder exams.
