All my days with you

Six decades of togetherness for George and Dora Minoza

Fort Providence (July 04/03) - Their surroundings have changed but their love hasn't wavered.

George and Dora Minoza were wed 61 years ago on June 30. For the past 15 years, they have resided at the Deh Gah Got'ie seniors home in Fort Providence.

Although they rarely get out for much more than an occasional day trip anymore, they still reflect fondly on their time spent in the bush. That's what they were doing one June afternoon while sitting on chairs in front of their green seniors unit.

"They would be having a much better time (now) but their hair is white already," said Oscar Lefoin, who interpreted George Minoza's humorous Slavey words.

It was in the bush they met and fell in love. They built several cabins over the years, according to George. Their daughter Alphonsine -- one of their eight children -- said that when she and her siblings all matured and moved away from home, her parents would take off to their trapline for weeks on end.

Although those days are gone, they still attend church together, something they have done for a long time. George said it's been the good Lord's will to keep them by each other's side.

Alphonsine has observed her parent's changing roles as the years progress.

"For the first 50 years, she looked after him; she cooked for him, cleaned for him," she recalled, adding that her mother has gradually become limited by her poor vision.

"Now it's his turn to look after her.

"He makes her a sandwich at night, he makes her tea."

Alphonsine visits her parents often and cherishes her time with them.

"We wish them all the best in the world," she said.

"Hopefully they make it to 75 years (together)."
