The district jumped at the chance to join the progressive insurance program when their current coverage ended in June.
Local company Aon Reed Stenhouse Inc. has been handling the insurance needs of the school board up to now.
"The current company is wonderful," says Superintendent Dr. Judith Knapp, but explains the new program focuses on school insurance, providing better coverage for what Yellowknife 1 needs.
"It makes sense to move into the school board environment," says Knapp, referring to the school specialization of the new insurance.
Student, teachers and all workers will be covered under the new plan, as well as fire and theft coverage for all school board buildings and their contents.
The Yellowknife 1 district will make the switch for the upcoming school year.
