Yellowknife (July 11/03) - The territorial government has awarded financial compensation to Stanton Territorial Hospital's former chief executive officer, Dennis Cleaver, but won't say how much.

Cleaver was fired last November by the hospital's board of directors, which then dissolved itself, after an operational review of Stanton criticized hospital management.

Sylvia Haener, director of labour relations and compensation with the GNWT's financial management board secretariat, said the severance package was settled a few weeks ago.

When asked about details of Cleaver's pay-out, Haener replied: "I can't tell you.

"Obviously he's a third party and we can't release that kind of information without the third party's permission."

Dave Murray, deputy minister of health and social services, did not return calls by deadline.
