A total of 21 students from Grades 7 through 12 participated in the school's first Fear Factor challenge. Glen Brocklebank says fellow Victor Sammurtok school teacher Vickie Tanuyak came up with the idea to host Chester's own Fear Factor challenge.
The event got underway with students having to complete a whole new variation of the bunny hop.
Brocklebank says each student had to crawl under a cargo net and run to a huge pot of cooked rabbit poop.
"Once there, they had to take out one piece of poop at a time and, using only their teeth, place it in another pot," says Brocklebank.
"The eight people with the most poop in the pot were 'rewarded' by having to advance to the second round of the competition."
The second round was a culinary challenge not to be undertaken by anyone weak of nerve or stomach.
First, the students had to roll a bowling ball to select what meal they had to eat.
But, there were no real winners when the bowling ball made its choice.
The six culinary delights awaiting the participants were caribou stomach lining pizza with hot peppers, cooked caribou eyeballs, pickled eggs, pickled herring, a glass of egg yokes and squid.
"Only four minutes were given to finish each of our delectable treats.
"When the smoke cleared, only two students managed to finish their meals."
Fern Sammurtok was the overall Fear Factor winner. His steely resolve saw him rewarded with $600, two DVD movies and two meters of material.
Russell Mullins finished second and took home $225, two meters of material, a camera and a board game.
Billy Inukshuk's third place finish saw him crawl, uh, that is, walk away with $75, a Walkman and a $25 Co-op gift certificate.
"Fear Factor was a great event the whole community took part in and the students really had a blast.
"Vickie (Tanuyak) came up with a great idea with this one.
"Although, I don't know how many of them would go through it again."
