Superintendent Kern Von Hagen unveiled the Spirit of Christ award and the trophies that will go with it at a board meeting earlier this month.
St. Patrick high school, Weledeh Catholic school and Ecole St. Joseph will each nominate one student for the annual award.
The student should be someone who exemplifies the spirit of the school district's mission statement, "Living in the faith," said Von Hagen.
Living in the faith includes embracing the values of truth, honesty, compassion, respect, forgiveness, service and love.
Students can demonstrate these qualities through involvement in social justice issues, overcoming obstacles, inspiring others, exemplary behaviour or through outstanding involvement in school, community or parish.
Each school will have a stained glass window with the name of the winner hanging from the frame.
The window was designed by Von Hagen.
Each window will have the school colours and an abstract design of Christian, Dene and Northern symbols.
"The seed of creativity will be represented in the final project," Von Hagen explained.
"(The stained glass) will be reflective of the spirit which captures what this award is all about."
Each student will also get a keeper trophy of an inukshuk, one of the Northern images included in the window.
The nomination deadline is May 31.
The awards will be given out in June.
