The council has moved into a more spacious office, located on the fourth floor of the Northwest Tower on 50th Street and 51st Avenue.

Council president Barbara Saunders said the new location was a long time coming.

"We've been looking for new office space for five years because we were just so cramped in the Tapwe building (on 51st Street) and it wasn't very inviting," she said.

The new space comes complete with a meeting room, six offices and a larger, more accessible resource library.

"It's a lot bigger than the other one and it allows us to open up the resource library," said Saunders.

The Department of Education, Culture and Employment will provide a research computer for the library.

"Hopefully that will allow it to be used as a research library by more than just us," said Saunders.

She said the new environment will add an element of confidentiality.

Her only complaint is the loss of a storefront location. The old office received a lot of walk-in business in the other location and Saunders hopes that doesn't change.

An open house is planned for March.
