The six Venturers along with two adult leaders will be heading to Thailand on Dec. 21 to participate in the 20th Scouts Jamboree.
The trip will be an opportunity to interact with 30,000 scouts world-wide, 200 of whom are from Canada.
"Scouts exist in virtually every country in the world," said Kevin Kennedy, Venturer leader.
"It's a chance for scouting youth from all over the world to get an idea where each other are from and how they live."
While in Thailand the Venturers, between 14 and 17-years-old, will participate in a number of activities.
They will engage in a community development program and fun activities including visiting a Thai village, a jungle trek and riding elephants.
There will also be competitions in scouting skills such as survival.
"It's going to be the experience of a life time and I'll get to spend Christmas on a beach resort," said Alyssa Hoeft.
Aside from a winter spent with sand and sun Hoeft said she believes the trip will be a real eye opener.
"We get to help with a community project so we'll get to meet with real people, not just the pretty face they put on," she said.
"We'll know there are other people in the world, not just us. Our brains, I don't think, comprehend that all the time."
The Yellowknife contingent is made up of Samantha Kennedy, Robert Kennedy, Joseph Kennedy, Devon Woodward, Alyssa Hoeft and Norah McNaughton. Kevin Kennedy and Byron Hynes are the two leaders attending the trip.
The Scouts Jamboree is held every four years. The next one will be in Chile in 2007.
