It's been a few weeks since long-time senior administrator Darren Flynn left his post. Grant Scott has been hired for the interim, but said he expects a candidate will be chosen over the next few days.
"We should have a final decision this week," he said.
Flynn lived and worked at various government levels in Nunavut and the Northwest Territories for 33 years before his retirement. After he resigned and headed to Rankin Inlet to take on a position with the Department of Community Government and Transportation, Scott was asked to return to Arviat to help with the transition.
He hasn't been to Arviat for about 15 years, but said it hasn't changed that much, "except there is more houses."
Scott is helping the hamlet council hire the new SAO. Last week they were sifting through approximately 10 applications and evaluating the qualifications of each candidate.
While he's in the community, Scott said he hopes to ensure the transitional period for the new senior administrator runs without a hitch.
"My priority is to keep things running as smoothly as they were when Darren was here," he said.
In October, Scott will head back home to Three Hills, Alta., just northeast of Calgary.
