Cambridge Bay (Sep 30/02) - Inquests will be held into the deaths of two Cambridge Bay residents.

Last November, an 18-year-old man died at a halfway house in Iqaluit.

Acting Chief Coroner for Nunavut, Tim Neily, said the inquest is scheduled to begin Jan. 28.

"It's just not a simple matter of the coroner looking at a calendar and saying I'll do it here. There are a number of people involved," said Neily.

The second man died Sept. 12 while in custody at the Baffin Correctional Centre.

Neily said the investigation into this matter is still ongoing.

He also said a date for the inquest will not be set until it is concluded.

Section 21 (2) of the Coroner's Act says an inquest is mandatory when a person dies while being detained or in custody.
