Fort Norman (July 22/02) - The Sahtu community of Tulita is testing the waters of community-based self-government.

Tulita Chief Frank Andrew said the band is waiting for the Department of Indian Affairs to reply to a letter sent this winter indicating an interest in starting self-government talks with federal negotiators.

"I hope they get back to us by the fall," said Andrew.

Andrew said it's too early to talk about details until the federal government replies.

The Sahtu community of Deline is currently in the midst of community-based self-government talks.

"It's the way Deline has negotiated, that is the thing (we want) I guess," said Andrew.
