Phuc Hong Huynh has been charged with assault with a weapon and uttering death threats. It is alleged that Huynh used a pipe to commit the assault.
The incident occurred at a Melville Drive residence on May 1. It is believed to be a drug-related incident.
Huynh, a local taxi driver, entered not guilty pleas on both charges in territorial court Tuesday. His trial has been scheduled for Aug. 21.
Huynh has lived in Yellowknife since 1979 when he moved here from Vietnam.
He was released from police custody on May 2.
The conditions of his release state that he not possess or consume any alcohol, stay out of licensed premises except restaurants, not be present on Melville Drive except for work-related purposes, and that he not contact any of the five individuals also alleged to be involved in the Melville Drive incident.
Alleged meat thief in court
A 35-year-old man will appear in territorial court next week after he was charged with stealing meat from Extra Foods.
The man has been charged with theft under $5,000 and possession of a knife for a dangerous purpose.
He will appear again on June 11 to enter pleas on both counts.
Guilty of possession
A Yellowknife man has plead guilty to one charge of possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking.
Michael Fraser entered the guilty plea in territorial court Tuesday.
He was charged with possession of marijuana in an amount not exceeding three kilograms on May 14. He will be sentenced on July 2 in territorial court.
