Yellowknife (June 12/02) - A 35-year-old man has been arraigned on two charges of aggravated sexual assault against a woman in the Frame Lake area June 6.

The accused has also been charged with forceable seizure and assaulting a police officer.

He had his first appearance in Justice of the Peace court Friday.

"The charges were read to him and he consented to remain in custody," said Crown prosector Noel St. Clair.

The accused was in territorial court again Tuesday. The Crown indicated it will be proceeding by indictment on all four charges and the matter has been adjourned until next Tuesday.

St. Clair said the accused will remain in custody and there is no show cause hearing scheduled at this time.

A conviction of aggravated sexual assault carries a maximum sentence of life imprisonment.
