Rosie Grandjambe of Fort Good Hope was at the Inuvik Regional Hospital on Oct. 2 when she spotted Sara Jane Firth of Fort McPherson. They had last seen each other in 1962, after spending about a year in the hospital's tuberculosis ward.
"I was so surprised I just about cried, my best friend I ever met," Grandjambe recalled.
"We just really grabbed one another, and were happy to see one another," Firth said. "We were just like two sisters when we were here."
The friends had lost touch with each other, and were busy catching up. However, Grandjambe was heading back home the evening of Oct. 3.
"I hate to leave. I wish it was another night," Grandjambe said with a laugh. "I will be sad when I get home."
They plan on keeping in touch from now on.
"You never know, we might meet each other again some day," Grandjambe said.
