Yellowknife (July 27/01) - The Yellowknife Women's Centre is holding a pair of meetings on Aug. 13 to discuss a review of its Healthy Baby Club.
Recently, the centre completed a study that looked at the strengths and weaknesses of similar programs across Canada. It also asked a variety of organizations and women in Yellowknife to critique the service.
"We found that there is a vast difference between what professionals want and want moms want," said program co-ordinator Jane Magrum.
"We want to develop a program that moms want."
Magrum said that mothers prefer informal gatherings over classroom-style lectures.
"A more holistic service is required," she said.
The Women's Centre will host a meeting for organizations interested in the program on Aug. 13 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Baker Centre. Another meeting, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Women's Centre, is for program participants and the public-at-large.
