Inuvik (Jun 29/01) - It looked like a Kojack lookalike contest.
Thirty-five people agreed to shave their heads last Friday during the Cops for Cancer event, and thus Mounties, fire fighters and other community members ended up looking like the main character in the 1970s television cops show.
Const. Dan Martin organized the event, the proceeds of which will go to the Canadian Cancer Society. He said on Tuesday that close to $25,000 had been raised.
"I've got some more coming in yet," said Martin, who himself was buzzed by clippers.
Of the total, almost $10,000 was raised during last week's Inuvik Petroleum Show.
"It was a great turnout. We were happy with it," Martin said.
He said he was also pleased with the festive atmosphere during the event, which was held during Midnight Madness.
