Inuvik (Jun 15/01) - The Inuvik Centennial Library hosted some special visitors last week.

On hand were three representatives of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, which donated some computers to the library last year.

These were Carol Ericksen, international library program manager with BMGF, as well as Robin Bishop, international program co-ordinator, and Pier David, manager for training.

They received a warm thank you for the donation by members of Carol Kydd's class at Sir Alexander Mackenzie school, who put on a jig.

Also on hand was Phillipa Scurrah, assistant director, client services, Northern Territories Library and Information Services in Australia.

Leonard Kniffel, editor of American Libraries, was with the others, and is to write an article based on his trip to the NWT.

Accompanying the visitors were Jane Peart and Jacquelyn Burles, with Education, Culture and Employment, as well as Sandy MacDonald, territorial librarian.

The visitors were impressed by the library and its services, explained Nora Dixon, director of library services.

"They had questions about computer use and library operations and procedures relating to the computers," Dixon said.

The delegation also visited the public library in Yellowknife, and virtual library sites in Fort McPherson, Fort Liard and Rae-Edzo.
