Yellowknife (Apr 02/01) - A quick thinking 18 year-old kept a serious fender bender from evolving into a major accident at a busy intersection in Yellowknife last Friday.
John Sorenson stopped a moving pick-up truck that was drifting into oncoming traffic after it was rear-ended at a red-light on Old Airport Road at the intersection across from Extra Foods grocery store.
According to Sorenson, Brenda Walsh hit her head on the steering wheel and lost consciousness after her vehcicle was rear-ended by another pick-up truck.
When Walsh's truck started to roll into the intersection, Sorenson jumped from his car, opened her passenger door, slammed the break with his hand and shoved the shift stick into park.
"I guess I was at the right place at the right time," said Sorenson.
Derek Moritz, Walsh's husband, was was grateful for the youth's "fast thinking" and quick action.
Two children, aged two and three years, were in the truck with Walsh. Moritz said the children were in the care of friends and his wifewas taken to the hospital.
The driver of the second truck would not comment other than to say that he was okay.
