Inuvik (Apr 20/01) - There seems to be some serious sweet tooths in Inuvik.
This year's graduating class served up 40 dozen Tim Horton's doughnuts, and 40 dozen timbits at the Aurora College gym last Friday.
It was all part of efforts to raise funds for the grad class, explained Jason Tologanak, chair of the fund-raising committee.
The doughnuts and timbits were sold at the gym, but students also distributed them throughout town.
Tologanak explained the fund-raising committee has already raised about $2,000, which is the most raised by a grad class in five years. He said the committee has done well, considering they only got going about six months ago.
"We're striving for $4,000. That in itself will bring a very gratifying graduation," Tologanak said.
The convocation ceremony will take place May 11, with the banquet to follow that evening. Both events take place at the Midnight Sun Recreation Complex. The Town of Inuvik has agreed to let the grads have the complex for free.
Catering the grad banquet will be the students in the kitchen helper program (a new class starts April 17).
Tologanak said his committee may soon write letters requesting donations, whether monetary or in kind.
Three fund-raising dances will be held this Saturday at the gym. A family dance goes from 3-5 p.m., a pre-teen dance takes place from 6-8 p.m., and a teen dance goes from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.
As well, a garage sale takes place April 28 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. People can buy a table or donate items.
