Pelly Bay (Apr 16/01) - Efficiency is the new name of the game when it comes to hamlet council.
It's all thanks to a recent training session for councillors. It's helped them develop a new streamlined model that will help them focus on the work they have to do.
"It forces council to look more at the results than at how you can get there," said Quinn Taggart, the hamlet's senior administrative officer.
Taggart explained that rather than concentrating on the minute details involved in arriving at something like a youth and elder's centre, the council would simply pass a motion stating that they wanted the centre and would then direct staff to follow through with the project.
The model keeps council free from becoming bogged down by details that make a project seem more difficult than it is.
"They focus on what they want to achieve and less on how to achieve it," said Taggart.
"You really focus on what you want to do, what your vision statement is."
Taggart said council was receptive to the training and would further discuss the model and how to implement it at their regularly scheduled hamlet meeting for April 19.
