Inuvik (Mar 23/01) - A brand new source of information on Inuvik and the surrounding area is now available.

The Inuvik and Beaufort Delta Attraction and Service Guide is being distributed in various places around town, said Brian Desjardins, tourism/fund-raising co-ordinator for the Town of Inuvik.

Desjardins said about 10,000 copies will be distributed here, with another 30,000 distributed to other NWT centres, as well as spots in Alberta, Yukon, British Columbia and Alaska.

Desjardins explained the guide will be used to respond to oversees queries, as well as the recently released Inuvik/Delta Visitor's Guide published by Northern News Services.

"I'm here to promote Inuvik," Desjardins said. "In order to promote Inuvik as a destination, we need to promote the whole region, the whole Beaufort Delta, the whole package," he said.

"If somebody wants to go to Tuktoyaktuk, where are they going to land? They're going to obviously drive or land in Inuvik. So it benefits us just as much as Tuk."

Desjardins said that outside of Inuvik the new guide, which he's been working on for six months, will be distributed among a variety of locations, including campgrounds, hotels and bed and breakfasts.

Desjardins said he's already looking forward to the 2002 issue. He said that hopefully next year the guide will feature information about contemporary Inuvik and ongoing oil and gas activity here.

"I want this guide to be all inclusive."

He said that in the future the guide may be printed in other languages.
