Russians tour Yellowknife

Yellowknife (Feb 19/01) - The circumpolar ties are growing with a visit by three women from Northern Russia.
The trio, from Norilsk, are in Yellowknife this week to help plan a Northern and Aboriginal Entrepreneur Trade Forum that will take place in Russia this summer.
They arrived in the NWT capital on Sunday and plans called for them to meet with women's groups and tour the city and local businesses. The were also to visit the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre where they will have a chance to see a caribou Gwich'in dress from the late 1800's. That outfit is being used in a project to help Gwich'in women regain lost skills in working with porcupine quills.
Visitors include Ludmila Georgyevna Praskuryakova, president of the Norilsk Industrial Region Association of Women in Business; Larisa Petrovna Fomenko, a member of the Association board; and Natalya Almazovna Plotnikova, deputy head of Department on Regional Policy, Norilsk Mining Company.
They are be accompanied by Canadian officials.
