Yellowknife (Dec 22/00) - The investigation into the death of a 37-year-old Nuna Logistics employee is in the hands of the Workers' Compensation Board.

Guyle Armstong of Lloydminster, Alta. was clearing the ice road from Tibbitt Lake to Lupin Mine early Tuesday when the snow cat he was operating crashed through the ice near Dome Creek Camp.

NWT Chief Coroner Percy Kinney said Armstrong managed to get out of the water, but collapsed shortly afterwards. He was pronounced dead at Stanton Regional Hospital and his body was sent to Edmonton for an autopsy.

"I'm not sure whether we're looking at the effects of hypothermia or whether he may have in fact been injured in the cab of the vehicle ... things are pretty sketchy right now," said Kinney.

John Zigarlick, chairman and CEO of Nuna Logistics in Vancouver, said the ice was tested before crews started work, but would not comment further because of the WCB investigation.

Crews were at work on the ice road Wednesday, Zigarlick said.
