Yellowknife (Jan 19/00) - Two fund-raising dinners this week will be a study in contrasts.
In response to a $150-a-plate Western Arctic Liberal Association fund-raising dinner Thursday night, Alternatives North and labour organizations are hosting an "Alternative Dinner" the same evening.
Admission to the Alternative Dinner will be $15, with proceeds going to the Yellowknife Food Bank.
"Last week there was news about the trouble the food bank was in and then we hear about this $150-a-plate dinner where $130 is going into the Liberal coffers," said Bob Haywood of Alternatives North. "Something is very wrong here."
Speakers at the Alternative dinner will include Food Bank representatives and the Federation of Labour.
Featured speakers at the Liberal dinner will be Western Arctic MP Ethel Blondin-Andrew and Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development Robert Nault.
