Cambridge Bay (Dec 20/99) - When the polls closed and the results started rolling in during last week's Nunavut Tunngavik Inc. election, it was clear that Raymond Ningeocheak would be re-elected.
Now a week into his third-term as NTI second vice-president, Ningeocheak received some 3,048 votes -- 48 per cent of the ballots cast -- from beneficiaries across Nunavut.
Coming in second was Koonoo Tattuinee with 1,318 votes, 1,700 fewer votes than Ningeocheak. Joseph Kaludjak came in third with 1,129 votes.
Voter turnout was about 70 per cent and according to chief returning officer John Ningark, there are an estimated 13,000 beneficiaries who are eligible to vote.
Official results will be announced once they are calculated.
