NNSL (July 23/99) - To Seamus Henry and Craig Shenher, donating money to the Stanton Foundation is all part of being a good corporate citizen.
"You put back into your community what it gives to you," said Raven Resources co-owner Seamus Henry.
Henry, who is also Yellowknife South MLA, and partner Shenher, put that ethic into practice with a recent donation of $20,000 to the Stanton Regional Hospital Foundation.
The donation from Raven Resources, a company that builds, owns and leases office space, has hospital communications officer Sue Glowach excited.
"We're really fortunate there's a lot of good corporate citizens in Yellowknife, the Western Arctic and even in Canada," she said.
"There are people all over the country who have donated to this project because they believe in what we're doing."
The foundation will spend the money on seven projects outlined during a capital funding drive launched in 1996.
The main projects include a new mammography machine, a CT-scan and a $1.3-million ultrasound colour doppler.
Money will also go toward renovations because the new mammography machine will not fit in the area that housed the old machine and the new area must be in a room with lead-lined walls.
Aside from lending money to help with area health care, Raven Resources also has a hand in providing for area education, Henry said.
"The two major concerns of any citizen -- particularly parents -- are health and education," Henry said, outlining how Raven Resources also donates $1,500 to $2,000 per year to schools for perfect attendance programs.
"As an employer we appreciate the value of punctuality and being on time. If you work on your own you can be more flexible. But working in a team situation, it's important to be there on time so everybody gets to come at the same time and leave at the same time."
Shenher said his part in donating money comes partly from how he is a new father, has been in Yellowknife for 11 years already and has no plans to leave.
