NNSL (Apr 09/99) - Yellowknife RCMP have reported that four cabins along the Ingraham Trail were broken into on the Easter long weekend.
Sgt. Marlin Degrand said the property damage was not large but RCMP are very concerned with the number of break ins which were committed over a short period of time.
"We are aware of four seasonal or cabin-type residences that were broken into," Degrand said. "There wasn't that much stolen, there were several pieces of electronics that were stolen from two different cabins."
Degrand said the culprits gained access to the cabins by kicking in the doors.
"There wasn't a tremendous amount of damage involved or anything, but it was because it was a larger number of them over a short period of time," Degrand said.
He said police are requesting residents check their cabins if they haven't been out in a while.
"We'd also like to know if there are any others out there that have not been reported yet," he added.
"From our checks of the area we can't find any, but there are a large number of cabins located up and down the entire length of Ingraham Trail."
"We're just hoping that if anybody has a cabin in the area, that they will go out and check them," Degrand said. Police have stepped up patrols of the area and are working with residents on setting up a community watch program.
"Our highway patrol officers are doing observation and intelligence gathering patrols through the area to determine the identity of different people and times they are in the area," he said.
"That way if we get any complaints, we know who was out in the area."
Police are seeking any reports of suspicious activities along Ingraham Trail.
